MPE Obsessions - July

Look at me! I'm all on time and stuff. I am determined to make my blog a priority, no matter what else I have going on! So this months obessesions are all about Ramadan. For all my Muslim followers, you all must be as excited as I am because Ramadan is my favorite time of the year! For my non-Muslim followers, you must be wondering either what the heck Ramadan is or how on earth can I be looking forward to month of fasting!? Well I'm going to answer both questions for you!

Ramadan is the 9th month of the Islamic lunar calendar  (which basically means that every year our dates change based on the moon) and it is during this month that practicing Muslims fast, that means both food & water, from dawn until the sun sets. I can understand that a lot of you might think that that would be awful and hard on your body but it really isn't. It's mind over matter, I mean how many times have you been so busy that you get into bed and suddenly realize that you haven't eaten? It doesn't hurt you.

But Ramadan isn't fasting just for the sake of fasting, it has a deeper meaning. Ramadan is a time to reevaluate the way that you are living and either get back on the right path or solidify your place there. It's sort of like we make New Years resolutions and have a month to work on fulfilling those resolutions. But it isn't only about adjusting your own life, it's about coming to terms with others. It is a time of forgiveness where we should try to make peace with people that have wronged us and also to bring your loved ones closer together. Basically, it's about out cleaning up our lives, our thoughts, and our feelings.

So, this is how I see Ramadan, and the reason I love it is because, besides all of that goodness, it has such wonderful family memories. It's like the best Thanksgiving weekend but it lasts a month! You get yummy food that is almost solely for Ramadan and when it's time to eat, all the family gets together and  shares the moment together. That might seem insignificant to some people, but when everyone has their own life and schedule something as simple as sharing a meal at the table is hard to achieve. Also, knowing that all the Muslims around the world are feeling the same way is such a beautiful and touching thing that it is hard not to get somewhat emotional.

Ok so enough about Ramadan, if you have any questions you can always email me (mypinkelephant.kw@gmail.com) and I will be more than happy to answer them! I hope you enjoy this months picks!
